An English as a Second Language/ English Language Learner is a brave soul who, despite many obstacles, work hard to learn their new language.  They come from all walks of life, all races, all socio-economic backgrounds, and all religions.

Non-native English language learners are facing many stumbling blocks when dropped into a full immersion English-speaking environment. Everything from their native language’s grammar to its alphabet can cause the learner to struggle with their learning. Things and words that we take for granted as native English speakers, such as our culture, history and unique understanding, can inhibit their learning and growth.

The age in which an English language learner begins his English-speaking journey can greatly affect their ability to retain the language and also to begin to think bilingually. Thinking bilingually means that the student is not hearing something, translate it in their mind to their native language, answering it their native language only to translate that answer into English. Thinking bilingually means they are thinking in English.

This is not an easy feat, that is why it is important to expose a child to English as possible to ensure the maximum effect their chances at bilingualism.
