Now, I warn you, I am not a film maker but I wanted to share some of the “from my perspective” video footage I took in China. Some are me riding around in cars, taxis and buses and videoing the surroundings. Maybe you won’t get what I am doing in the videos, I guess I wanted people to see real life in China. To show that it isn’t what the media shows us that it is complex and beautiful.

My favorite thing to do was to ride Bus 10 its entire route and people watch. That Changed when they closed Guoluo square to build the new drum tower. But I found other interesting places to people watch, like at the Night market or even walking around outside South gate.

I loved walking around at night and getting lost in the beauty of the neon lights on all the shops and restaurants. Listening to the sounds of the hustle and bustle of life.

What I want people to take away from anything I show about my time in China is that the Chinese are humans, just like us. They get up in the morning, go to work or school or they stay home and scrub the laundry and the floors. Then after a very long hot day of hard work, they come home to their families or their friends. Maybe they hang out on their stoop or the street near their buildings and play cards, drink a few beers, smoke a few cigs and bitch about their bosses or their nagging wives. Maybe they get in a heated debate over some aspect of history or politics.

Above all I want to show that life is not at media shows us. Not here and not there. But you won’t ever know that until you get out and see it for yourself. If you can’t get out for whatever reason than open your mind and read or watch or talk to those that have seen the world first hand. But no matter what don’t take mainstream or politicians words for what the world outside Americas borders is like…find out for yourself.
